Several comments abt recent news....Tampines suicide
Another piece of sad news... I'm sure i do not have to say more. It is one of the high profile reports this week.
I would say this is a very sad case of extreme addiction which ended in death. The father was deeply in debt due to gambling addiction... I only know this much. Did not really follow all of the reports.
But some other things that I read recently sparked off other tots in my mind. Besides sympathy for the family of 4. Why did this come in the midst of the casino discussion? Seems like some conspiracy...
I have also received some faxes to my office fax machine, from a company called nature's glory which has a net presence. All 17 pages of them. It's about the casino issue entitled 'Casino Mirage'. How it's supposed to be bad and against the will of god. I'm sorry I couldn't share wif u guys the article as it's obviously not available on net, even though the faxes I received suggested that it was printed out as an article on the company's website. Has it been disallowed? Taken off? *anyone interested to take a look, ask me.*
Then came news of how the pastor of the church that the man attended, had helped him with his gambling debts 10 years ago. Hmm...am i too suspicious? I do tink there's smtg going on here...
Seems to me that someone's trying to stop the casino from being built. Perhaps it's really god? Perhaps it's some organisations? I wouldn't know. I'm juz guessing here and there...
However, regarding the casino issue...or gambling addiction, actually any form of addiction for that matter, it's really up to individuals, isn't it?
For example, this man went to Genting to gamble. This shows that if you are addicted, u will go anywhere for that addiction. But if you are juz plain uninterested, even if the casino is built at your doorstep, you wouldn't step in.
Singapore oredi have many illegal gambling dens as shown from past examples of loansharks chasing for debts in housing estates. Is there a casino yet? No. So where did these people go where they lost large sums of money? People will just find alternatives, not stop gambling.
I tink those who are for the casino issue have their point too. It probably will boost tourism which in turns boost employment and earnings for the nation. And if the ills of having the casino are managed well...there shldn't be any problems? Singapore have always been able to control its crime rate... Having this casino probably will put this to the best test.
Everything said, I am not for gambling. In fact, i have every reasons to despise it.
To curb gambling addiction, probably the only way is to seek professional help, as with battling all other addictions. The only problem is most people dunno they have a problem until it is too late.
*confused*
I'm sure our wise govt will know what to do...
They are not leaving the decision to us...anywayz... so what's the fuss? :þ
